Position Overview

You'll serve as the central point of contact for Compost Crew’s customers, Drivers, Helpers and supervisors/managers.You'll use effective communications and precision logistics tools to support real-time route execution, schedule management and problem-solving. Your work will have a direct impact on service quality, safety and asset management. You'll also recommend approaches to optimize routes and address  events that affect successful route completion.

Key Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • At least one year experience in a high-volume dispatch & customer service role 

  • Customer service/Communication/Collaboration skills

  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment

  • Discipline in applying department/company processes and procedures 

  • Problem-solving and action follow-up skills

  • Effective and professional communication skills  via email, telephone, and other technological devices

  • Proficiency in use of scheduling and communications software applications

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in using multiple information sources, including reports and databases

  • Reliable attendance in office

  • U.S. employment authorization

Other Helpful Background

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent

  • Experience in environmental management, transportation, waste management or logistics industry

  • Community service experience

  • Continuous improvement knowledge/skills

  • Interest in sustainability 

Essential Responsibilities 

Driver and Helper Support/Communication

  • Review current day performance / route progress of Drivers and contact each Driver to check in, inform of identified issues and obtain any further feedback

  • Provide Drivers with special route and customer instructions consistent with direction from Operations Supervisor

  • Check with other Route Planners and Operations Supervisor for feedback from Drivers

  • Escalate reviewed concerns from to ensure response to feedback and compliance

  • Provide PPE compliance reminders to Drivers and Helpers, escalating compliance problems to Operations Supervisor

  • Provide real-time information to Drivers on safety systems alerts, such as alerts for speeding

  • Communicate and reinforce key daily safety messages as identified by Operations Supervisor

  • Communicate information about and reinforce completion of administrative tasks, such as timekeeping and vehicle pouch storage, to Drivers and Helpers

  • Provide skills coaching on administrative task completion 

  • Direct to informational resources, such as Collections policies and procedures

  • Escalate problems and additional support needed to Operations Supervisor

Route Planning/Administration

  • Review next day schedule/Make route and schedule adjustments to optimize routes for next day

  • Review daily and weekly service requests

  • Assign requested service items into the next day routing with appropriate notes

  • Verify completion of service items scheduled and update status information in record systems

  • Update items planned for completion accurately in record systems to ensure customers are aware of plans

  • Review daily notices of address changes

  • Review changes and update routing software based on location changes

  • Update record systems with completed changes and additional information

  • Review and upload logistics reports into record systems daily

  • Review notes provided from Drivers to identify service action items

  • Transmit validated service notes to service partners to enable completion of customer communication

  • Collaborate with other Compost Crew staff to address outstanding service items

Schedule/Location

  • Monday to Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
  • Early morning, evening or weekend work may be required sometimes to meet business needs
  • Location - 7800 Penn Western Ct, Upper Marlboro MD 20772
  • Setting - In office daily
