Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Spray Tech is responsible for selecting and appropriately applying all chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers associated with grounds and golf course maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect turf, shrubs, lakes, and other outdoor club areas to determine chemical, pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer needs.
  • Apply chemicals, pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer as appropriate to maintain the proper condition of golf course and grounds according to Company standards.
  • Implement Integrated Pest Management practices in the care of the course and grounds.
  • Recommend products, equipment and suppliers. Submit purchase orders for products, supplies and equipment as needed with attention to budget limitations.
  • Maintain inventory of products.  Ensure all safety procedures are followed with respect to storage and use of all products and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate usage and safety records for all applications in compliance with Company procedures and local, state and federal laws.
  • Train and supervise staff as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
  • Maintain current Certified Application Specialist licenses as required.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budget for department.
  • Assist in course set-up and other course maintenance procedures as required
  • Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to golf industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
  • Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required reports.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications
  • High school required.
  • 1 year experience in golf course maintenance and spray applications.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting Company safety standards.
  • Certified Application Specialist license.
  • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

Position Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to:
  • Read and write (English)
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions
  • Supervise subordinates
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
  • See players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for several hours at a time
  • Perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Retrieve, read and interpret information from technical sources
  • Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly

Working Conditions
Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement on a daily basis. Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.
