Our Workforce Programs are designed to help young adult and adult participants without a bachelor’s degree launch their careers through ITWorks and CXWorks. We provide workforce development services, including professional development, internship and job placement support. With offices in Philadelphia PA, Wilmington DE, Washington DC, and Las Vegas NV, Tech Impact has been delivering services since 2003 to thousands of nonprofit organizations and trained over 1000 participants for growth-oriented careers.

Position Overview
The Career Development Specialist primary responsibilities are establishing and maintaining activities that develop, locate, secure internships and job openings, and coordinate additional efforts to assist our adult learners in securing and retaining employment throughout their career path in technology.  We view their long-term success as the best proof of the impact of our program. Our commitment to the participant does not end at graduation. The Career Development Specialist will also proactively engage our past graduates, ensuring that they are working and retaining employment, and growing their careers.

Position Description
The Career Development Specialist performs a wide variety of administrative and organizational tasks to support participants as they enter successful careers, and the candidate should have a strong sense of accountability for participant achievement.

Participant Support, Job and Partner Engagement
  • Responsible for providing internship, job placement, and support services for program graduates.
  • Garner relationships and interface with employers and hiring partners.
  • Complete participant career readiness coaching sessions and provide individual support after placement.
  • Résumé review and development according to Tech Impact best practices.
  • Quality checking of LinkedIn and other digital footprints.
  • Timely program data entry and reporting 
  • Place, support, track, provide feedback and otherwise manage all aspects of the ITWorks internship process for successful outcomes for the intern and internship host.
  • Support Professional Development event activities.
  • Attend community outreach events to promote hiring of our programs’ participants.
  • Develop a pool of employment positions that match a participant’s skills and certifications.
  • Act as an advocate on behalf of program participants to employers and hiring partners.
  • Provide follow-up services and re-placement when needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of career and technical theories, career education program development, national and local labor market information, business and community resources, and employers’ need.
Alumni Engagement and Support
  • Maintain contact with graduates, coordinate meetups and alumni events, and provide value to alumni.
  • Identify partnerships and opportunities for participants to pursue further education and certification.

Job Qualifications
  • Proven record of accomplishment of success in a recruiting role is preferred, including responsibility for screening, interviewing, and placing candidates in multiple positions concurrently.
  • Very strong customer service orientation, positive attitude, highly self-motivated, directed and change oriented.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, relationship building skills, and public speaking skills are required.
  • Ability to develop alternative solutions to problems; comparing and analyzing data; preparing clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written reports, letters, emails, and other documented communication.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and make decisions relating to assigned tasks.
  • Technical expertise with an ability to understand and explain job requirements for IT roles related to Tech Impact programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in working well in diverse economic and multicultural communities and environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with CRM (customer relationship management) databases, such as Salesforce.com, is required.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage a large workload within tight deadlines.
  • 1-3 years of outreach and relationship development experience (with clients, volunteers, employers etc.) is preferred. 
Other Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working at a nonprofit or in an employment recruitment capacity.
  • The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work collaboratively across teams; possess a strong belief and alignment with the organization and program mission.
