The Human Resources Director is responsible for developing human resources policies and directing and coordinating human resources activities such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services. All initiatives are aimed at attracting, motivating, and maintaining a highly qualified and diverse workforce. This role, as leader of our human resources team, will also include coordination of all human resources functions and staff procedures. The Human Resources Director supervises 2 other HR Team Members and will report directly to the CEO. 

Essential Functions 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive human resources policies and procedures to ensure a safe and equitable workplace for all staff 

  • Review operations policy and procedures manuals and employee handbook 

  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies and practices comply with applicable law 

  • Develop and maintain a human resources system that meets management and employee needs which may include the ability to identify, maintain and optimize HRIS and other technologies to improve service to staff 

  • Improve efficiencies on internal HR tasks and information/approval workflow. 

  • In collaboration with leadership, develop job descriptions, recruit, interview, and select employees to fill vacant positions 

  • Evaluate / Redesign / Oversee new employee orientation 

  • Maintain records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and retirement plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting 

  • Establish clear and transparent policies and procedures for hiring, termination, and promoting personnel 

  • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, and safety 

  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are compliant 

  • Keep abreast of laws affecting the organization and staff and workplace initiatives to assess industry trends 

  • Attend managers meetings if neccessary to draft and deliver presentations regarding human resources policies and practices 

  • Report regularly to senior leadership

  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues 

  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization 

  • Administer salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization 

  • Participate and review wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate 

  • Act as liaison with brokers, agents, plan administrators, and professionals for benefits programs such as life, health, and dental insurance, retirement plans, PTO, sick leave, leaves of absence (including workers’ compensation), and employee assistance and provide guidance to staff on the same 

  • Conduct or oversee internal investigations of possible misconduct, including alleged harassment or discrimination, and manages the same to resolution 

  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, and conduct exit interviews to document reasons behind separations 

  • Represent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations 

  • Oversee employee trainings and contract with outside services to provide additional needed training or employee support services 

  • Assist Finance in reconciliations (benefits, time off, etc.) 

  • Consult with, and works cooperatively with the organization’s consultants, legal counsel, auditors and other outside professionals 

  • Coordinate on related issues with finance and payroll staff 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the CEO 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration, or closely aligned field required; advanced human resource management certification (e.g., SHRM, PHR) preferred 

  • 10+ years of HR experience and 3-5+ years of HR Director/Leadership experience required

  • Previous experience working with small, rapidly growing organizations

  • Experience with or willingness to learn the Top Grading process

  • Demonstrated familiarity with recruiting, compensation and benefits plans, human resources software, applicable employment laws (LinkedIn/HRIS/ATS/CRM/MS Office) 

  • Experience building and managing onboarding, succession planning/development, employee engagement, recruitment,

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work 

  • Strong organizational, management, and planning skills 

  • Proficient in MS Office
