Job Title: Experienced Cable Crew Laborer
Reports to: Project Manager
Compensation: $22-$50/hr plus prevailing wage opportunities

Power & Construction Group (P&CG) is currently seeking experienced Cable Crew Laborers to join our team. In this role, you will lead in pulling de-energized primary electric cable, setting transformers, and terminating GIS switch gear.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Experienced Cable Crew Laborers play a crucial role in various tasks related to electric cable installations and maintenance. This includes pulling de-energized primary electric cable, setting transformers, and terminating GIS switch gear.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five years experienced underground primary distribution work
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • CDL-B or CDL-A required.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Ability to envision cable routing.
  • Ability to read plan sheets.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Record of reliability.
  • Desire to be trained in the safe performance of the work.
  • Comfortable with heights.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pulling de-energized primary electric cable.
  • Setting transformers.
  • Performing various splices, including transition joints across dead break kits, termination kits, and splice kits.
  • Termination in dead break kits.
  • Ability to perform Hi-Pot testing and/or VLF testing.
  • Rigging – positioning of slings, chains, and ropes.
  • Works alone or alongside others, and/or trains other electricians or groundmen in applicable procedures and techniques.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Occasional on-call for work.
  • Occasional mandatory overtime without notice is required.

POTENTIAL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO:

  • Arrive on the job site on time wearing proper attire and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Take direction from Foremen, Clients, Safety Representatives, and Management.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with the public and clients.
  • Perform extensive physical labor, including but not limited to: Digging with a hand bar or shovel to expose live utilities, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing into and out of trenches and manholes, over and under obstacles.
  • Work outdoors year-round in all types of weather.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper use and maintenance of all company tools and equipment.
  • Full-time employment is dependent on a 90-day review.
  • This is a very physically demanding position, requiring the ability to lift heavy objects, push, pull, twist, climb, and crawl while working in confined spaces and outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Lineman certification training is available for the right candidate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
  • Stamina to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise tasks.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Good vision, including close-up and peripheral vision, for detailed inspections.
  • Hearing ability to diagnose engine and equipment noises.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
