Title: Traffic Control Supervisor
Compensation: $25-$35 per hour

Job Overview: Supervises tasks related to vehicular, pedestrian, and construction traffic control operations for road, bridge, and highway heavy construction projects. Responsible for implementing and overseeing traffic control operations, lane closures, road closures, and setting signs and devices in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. May operate a variety of vehicles, pick-up trucks, and attenuator trucks. Will work near traffic and interact regularly with the public.

Essential Functions:
  • Currently familiar with traffic control setups & designs required by NYSDOT.
  • Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites.
  • Supervises Flaggers and ensures company standards are being complied with.
  • Completes daily logs (vehicle, time, project, etc.) timely and accurately.
  • Maintains a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Material handling and storage.
  • Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and lifts materials.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with all applicable company, local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Effectively communicates problems or concerns to the Foreman, Project Supervisor, or Safety Manager.
  • Must be able for extended periods of time to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, jogging, climbing, kneeling, squatting, bending at the waist, and lifting objects.

Additional Job Details:
  • Potential to go out of town intermittently.
  • Some overtime required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Firm knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in traffic operations related to heavy/highway construction work.
  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups to complete daily activities according to the work schedule.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry heavy objects (75+ pounds) and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedules with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to interact professionally with supervisors, project supervisors, coworkers, the public, subordinate employees, other contractors, project owners, and their agents.
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
  • Beneficial to possess and maintain a current Traffic Control supervisor and flagger card. Training possible after hire.
Work Context:
  • Regularly works near moving traffic and machines and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
