The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is currently hiring a regular full-time Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator to support and be the primary contact for our Volunteer individuals and groups.

The Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator is a key figure in the overall success of the Volunteer Services Program. The primary duty of this position is to schedule all volunteer individuals and groups for the San Diego Food Bank. The individual will be the direct contact for volunteers at the front desk for the Volunteer Center; will schedule and track volunteer shifts; follow-up on voicemails, phone calls, and emails with volunteers; update volunteer schedules and calendars and provide frequent updates to staff; communicate with Program staff and other departments to determine and fulfill volunteer needs; and other related duties as needed.

The Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting episodic and long-term volunteers, managing and placing interns, and assisting the Volunteer Department with a wide assortment of volunteer projects. The position will be required to manage and track volunteer hours, schedule volunteer events, conduct volunteer interviews and orientations, and perform community outreach. This includes providing guidance, support, and providing resources and tools to staff who supervise volunteers.

This position will assist in building relationships with new businesses, major corporations, as well as professional groups. The Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator will be challenged with creating and giving presentations about the Food Bank and the volunteer program in an effort to inform/train volunteers in support of the San Diego Food Bank programs.
The position will occasionally assist with volunteer orientations, provide project instructions, and help manage the volunteer recognition program.  As support to other Food Bank programs, the position will assist Food Bank staff with recruiting and posting for volunteer opportunities related to special events, program distributions and media events.


The ideal candidate has:

  • Experience using scheduling and volunteer management software
  • Great customer service skills and is comfortable with public speaking
  • The ability to interact professionally with volunteers, board members, and donors
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (especially Outlook), computer equipment and standard office equipment
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear and effective communication skills (both orally and in writing)
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and/or four years of progressively responsible experience in performing volunteer management duties; or equivalent combination of training and experience



This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The hourly range for this position is $15-$16/hr.
