POSITION TITLE:           Transportation/Yard Supervisor
STATUS:                          Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT:               5283-Transportation / Operations

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB: Responsible to work closely with and supervise personnel to keep flow of daily activities on task with a focus on safety. Delegate daily tasks to personnel and support manager with all operations as needed


  • At the direction of the manager, directs activities of the drivers and warehouse staff with responsibility to operate forklifts (MH2, MH3).
  • Responsible for ensuring best in class safety and training programs are in place and delivered for all warehouse positions including conducting and scheduling safety meetings and trainings of all transportation personnel.
  • Responsible for coordinating all truck drivers’ daily schedule.
  • Required to handle all matters relating to GIRE Truck Orders-Including communications with stores.
  • As relates to all GIRE vehicles- Responsible for all maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness following GIRE policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and dispatch transportation deliveries and pickups, prepares, coming/going GIRE trucks including GIRE vehicles, salvage trucks, trash/waste trucks and planning pickup and delivery schedules to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Responsible for development of driver training on routes, required paperwork and policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all mile and fuel logs are completed and are turned in as requested.
  • Ensures that all keys including, equipment, vehicles, lock out tag out keys, etc. are accounted for at the end of business day.
  • Responsible for upkeep of Yolanda parking lots and yard including proper removal of collected mattresses, appliances, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory and compliance issues related to rolling stock is current.
  • Required to be in good standing to drive company vehicles including 24’-26’ trucks and forklift operations as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Federal and State DOT requirements are adhered to in coordination with the Safety and HR departments.
  • Ensure that all drivers are completing their daily safety inspections.

  • Back up any position in warehouse / transportation as needed to accomplish company goals.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and organized manner.
  • Adhere to all company policies.
  • Report all questionable activity and/or concerns to management.
  • Promote and adhere to the Code of Safe Practices.
  • Practice and be a role model for all loss prevention and safety rules.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of incidents and accidents.
  • Conduct self in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Effectively manage time and monitor staff time to ensure work is being completed.
  • Exhibit positive leadership resulting in a positive work atmosphere for customers, clients, participants, co-workers, and management.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings, including safety and online safety trainings as required
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must have two-year supervisory experience and proven track record for teamwork.
  • Three or more years’ experience in material handling, warehouse operations, and transportation.
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers and the public, both orally, and in writing .
  • Present a clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Organized and able to work independently.
  • Good communication skills, both in writing, and orally.
  • Able to positively influence and motivate assigned staff.
  • Ability to handle and resolve inquiries and complaints tactfully and professionally.
  • Able to regularly lift to 50 pounds with or without an accommodation.
  • Computer skills are a must. Beginning to intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Forklift experience and truck driver (Class C) required.
  • Must have a valid California Drivers’ License, an acceptable DMV Report, and be insurable (Class-A license is preferred, not required.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Continuous exposure to all weather elements/conditions resulting from regular working indoors and outside. Walking on surfaces include asphalt, concrete, dirt, tile, linoleum, carpet including uneven surfaces. Constant exposure to moving machinery and vehicles. Moderate to loud continues noise level. Moderate dust level exposure. Office with standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, sitting, walking intermittently throughout work shift. Frequently lifting up to 50lbs. Bending, twisting, stooping, pulling, pushing, including pushing/pulling pallet jack, reaching and grasping. Gross manual dexterity skills required. Visual acuity, hearing and verbal skills required.
