This position has a starting pay of $16.50 per hour

  1. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:  Goodwill Guide Coaches will provide training, mentoring and supports to promote both work and life stability for all GIRE team members. The purpose of the Goodwill Guide program is to create comprehensive support to team members through workplace coaching, personal/career guidance within the organization as well as offering resources as needed. The Goodwill Guide Coach will work in various locations throughout the organization. Work Assignments will be based on program and team member need.

  • Deliver introduction meeting to all new team members within 4-days of start date.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with team members through intake and case management.
  • Explore life and work options for team members including, but not limited to self-identified/struggles barriers to self-sufficiency and work performance goals. By using the Goodwill Guide needs assessment, ONet survey for work interests and the Food Insecurity Assessment as needed.
  • Provide one-to-one training and guidance to team members on work performance and navigation of resources available in the community.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies to assist team members in learning about particular tasks or community resources that would support work/life success.
  • Collaborate with Goodwill Guide team, and others, to create tools for different learning styles in the workplace including a task analysis, arranging all task steps into sequential, teachable components.
  • In a Coaching setting:
        • Monitor and teach work-related skills and behaviors such as appropriate communication, on-task behavior, grooming, and appropriate social interactions.
        • Help identify team member workplace concerns and suggest possible solutions without intruding on the employer/supervisor relationship.
  • Complete Next Action forms for team members to include areas of responsibility for both team member and Goodwill Guide Coach.
  • Schedule weekly team member follow up to monitor success towards achieving action items.
  • Timely logging of service hours, resources, progress and needs met in the case management system.
  • Encourage performance feedback through satisfaction surveys by team members following intake, then at 30-60-90 days of program participation and then quarterly throughout enrollment in the program.
  • Maintain partnerships and positive interactions with all stores, local community resources and team members.
  • Complete intake paperwork and send e-mail correspondence with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Generate team member case notes that meet the quality expectations and standards of the GIRE.
  • Ability to follow all Goodwill policies and procedures and provide leadership and mentoring to team members.
  • Attend monthly Goodwill Guide department meetings.

  • Report regularly to the supervisor on progress in each location.
  • May provide training and support to team members in other counties including Napa & Mendocino.
  • Complete and submit all required reporting forms, including hours worked and mileage, in a timely manner.
  • Identify and implement appropriate strategies to assist team members.
  • Provide informational updates as requested for the board and social media.
  • Adhere to all GIRE company policies.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Attend regular safety meetings and on-line trainings.

  • Experience working with persons with various workplace challenges and barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of behavior modification and techniques, and have the ability to conduct a task analysis.
  • Demonstrated coaching, advocating and empowering skills.
  • Ability to develop the appropriate teaching aids and suggest accommodations or assisting devices.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of independent living skills and/or competitive work standards with employer perspectives and expectations.
  • Willingness and ability to train a variety of skills in varied environments with different physical demands.
  • Ability to manage time daily and plan travel efficiently to meet the needs of the program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, or other similar software.
  • Patience, reliability, problem solving abilities and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work with team members one-to-one and in a group setting (up to five at a time)
  • Must possess the ability to deescalate situations and demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
  • Awareness of CARF standards preferred and the Americans with Disabilities Act & Lanterman Act required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to travel to various training and work locations. Most within a 30 mile radius of the Local Office.
  • This position will require travel to multiple locations on a daily basis. Therefore a valid California Driver License, acceptable DMV report, California auto insurance, and reliable transportation are required. Valid CDL and acceptable DMV report allows GIRE to bond coverage on you and this position will be assigned to work in all GIRE worksites.

5.         WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Each location has a variety of factors that should be acknowledged, including variable noise and dust levels, varying temperatures, as well as varying lighting and ground surfaces.

6.         PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This depends on training site and skills being trained.  You can expect to be standing, sitting, bending, stooping, lifting, grasping, and stretching.  Must have visual capabilities.  Vehicle travel is required.
