POSITION TITLE:   Accountant
STATUS:                 Non-Exempt

This position has a starting pay of $28 - $40 per hour

1.         CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:  Position supports the maintenance of the general ledger, general ledger and subsidiary ledger reconciliations, the preparation of monthly financial statements and income statement analysis.  
 
2.         PROVIDES SUPERVISION TO:   None

3.         RESPONSIBILITIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Provides support to all accounting staff, to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger positions.
  2. Review accounts payable processing weekly and provides an approved payment cash flow report for authorization.
  3. Review accounts receivable processing weekly and provides aging reports to appropriate parties.
  4. Review daily bank reconciliation processing, reviews Agency’s controls in relation to bank accounts.
  5. Ensure that documented desk manuals (written procedures) for the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions are maintained.
  6. Review the Annual 1099’s prepared by Accounts Payable and ensure timely mailings to the vendors and filing with the IRS.
  7. Created and manage monthly close calendar.
  8. Maintain all General Ledger journal entries and monitor monthly journal entry log.
  9. Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of all balance sheet reconciliations monthly.  Including research of any discrepancies and submit recommended corrections to manager for review and approval.
  10. Reconcile Fixed Asset subsidiary reports with General Ledger reports monthly. Review current listing of Fixed Assets quarterly to ensure that only assets still in service are carried on the balance sheet.
  11. Assist in creation of annual budgets, internal and external, including the updating and/or creation of budgeting templates.
  12. Coordinate the input of budget data to accounting system software.
  13. Provide analytical reports as required by management to include analyzing trends, costs, and revenues.

  4. Participate in agency committees, as assigned or approved.
  5. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

4.         QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Requires Bachelor’s degree with five years’ experience in all phases of accounting.
  2. Experience in accounting may be substituted as a portion of education requirements.
  3. Prefer non-profit, grant, retail, A/R and A/P accounting experience.
  4. Experience with accounting software.
  5. Solid skills with spreadsheet development and use.
  6. Highly organized, self-directed and detail oriented.
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Conduct self in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  9. Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and on the telephone.
  10. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance to perform various job responsibilities

5.         WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Clean, well ventilated office.  Overhead lighting.  Carpet.        Temperate climate.  Low to moderate noise level.

6.         PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Continuous sitting.  Fine finger movements with continual computer use.  Occasional driving. Frequent bending, reaching, and grasping. Occasional lifting to 25 pounds.
