POSITION SUMMARY:  To lead the organization to: Comply with mutually agreed upon valid requirements 100% of the time; Minimize defects through a culture of prevention rather than detection. Continually improve and maintain the quality of our products and services.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Promote quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization;
  • Establish product standards (e.g. bill of materials, standard routings, inspection plans, inspection templates, etc.) to customer requirements in support of Project Management/NPD/NPI initiatives – prepare customer concessions/waivers as assigned;
  • Customer deliverables and documentation submissions, including FAIR (typical AS9102 format), quality data packages, CMC-driven change qualification packages;
  • Improve the current AS9100, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 documented Quality-Business System; Develop, implement and drive changes to bring the Company’s System and Policies into compliance with requirements;
  • Work with purchasing staff to establish/communicate quality requirements to external product and service suppliers;
  • Ensure the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specifications;
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports;
  • Support audit activities (e.g., Registrar, Customer, Internal-Contracted), including closing out findings, creating reports as needed and determine proper corrective and preventative actions;
  • Assist with external failure investigations, aide colleagues as assigned to contain, investigate, identify root cause, and implement action; Analyze trends, as well as corrective and preventive action effectiveness (Management Review input);
  • Support customer required technical tests and checks;
  • Write technical and management systems reports;
  • Provide input & recommend improvements to the Company’s quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials and components, processes and finished goods;
  • Lead initiatives that aide in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and systems pertaining to quality assurance and quality control;
  • Maintaining awareness of the business context and company profitability, including budgetary control issues;
  • Effectively interact and communicate with multiple departments throughout the company.  Support and assist others to meet and exceed department goals;
  • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset to proactively identify and act to improve current processes;
  • Effectively prioritize and complete assigned tasks, manage multiple projects concurrently and support assigned departmental business processes with minimal direction;
  • Adhere to Employee’s responsibilities outlined in Cygnus’ Health & Safety Policy.

Additional Skills & Responsibilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience serving as a Quality Engineer in a contract manufacturing or similar environment;
  • ASQ Certification preferred (CQE,CQM, etc.);
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Project, Discus (or equivalent OCR FAIR package software), Minitab or comparable statistical software;
  • Strong knowledge of Six Sigma Methodology, Lean Manufacturing techniques, FMEA’s, IQ/OQ/PQ, GD&T, GR&R, Capability Studies and A3/8D Problem Solving;
  • Strong ability to interpret drawing requirements and geometric tolerancing;
  • Strong technical math and mechanical abilities;
  • Good verbal, technical writing and reading abilities;
  • Service attitude with commitment to quality;
  • Able to work under stress and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Able to work independently and with others at all levels;
  • Solid knowledge of medical device manufacturing, machining and fabrication processes is required;
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO13485, AS9100 or equivalent standards desired, including Nuclear and commercial grade supplier requirements;
  • Well organized and proactive with a keen sense of urgency;
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing shop environment (including hot, cold and/or noisy areas);
  • Frequent hand to finger, handle, feel objects & tools, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking and hearing;
  • Physically submit to periodic drug tests (employment is contingent upon favorable results).
