Employees are generally more engaged when they believe that their employer is concerned about their growth and provides avenues to reach individual career goals while fulfilling the company's mission.  A career development path provides employees with an ongoing mechanism to enhance their skills and knowledge that can lead improved performance, promotions, or transfers to other positions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess Employee Needs:  The Managers first job is understanding the current strengths and weaknesses of a company's employees. This could involve a variety of assessment methods, such as surveys, focus groups, meeting with various members of the company and assessing the company's reputation overall.
Design Training Plans and establish career paths:  Ability to design training programs to help employees overcome current knowledge gaps as well as to help them to manage their own personal career ladder. Establish comprehensive training programs to assist employees who would like to move from an operational position to a supervisory position.
Manage or Direct Employee Training:  The Manager will teach the desired coursework themselves or rely on the teaching abilities of others. In either case, they must make sure the program covers the needs of the employees and that the desired principles and skills are being taught in the most learnable ways possible. This includes fostering a 'culture of learning' within the company.
Research Training Methods:  The Manager must constantly be on the lookout for new training programs and more effective ways to reach employees. This includes looking for new approaches to teaching the desired skills or attributes, and designing more efficient teaching practices. This includes maintaining communication with the company's employees on every level, in order to recognize new issues and plan for learning initiatives.  It also includes representing CDTA alongside other transit properties via NYPTA and APTA events to learn and share with our colleagues.
Understand organizational needs and use training to meet long term goals:  For CDTA to move forward, the Manager of Talent Development must understand talent gaps within the organization and utilize principles of succession planning to bridge those gaps. 
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in education or a related field is preferable.
  • Minimum of 8 years training and developing employees in an organizational setting. 
  • Demonstrated ability working with the methods and principles for designing programs to teach, train and instruct both groups and individuals, including the means of assessing the effects of training
  • Human Resources, including principles behind recruitment, selection, succession planning and engagement.
  • Strong customer and personal service skills, including employee needs assessment, evaluation of satisfaction, and ensuring quality standards of service.
  • Ability to develop the skills and knowledge of other training professionals so that they can deliver a higher standard of learning
Salary Range:
Grade 617 ($71,073-$89,708/salary)
