Summary

AvtechTyee is seeking an energetic, inquisitive, and disciplined Information Technology Intern for projects covering the implementation of a cybersecurity program. The candidate will interface with several critical functional groups within the business, including: operations, engineering, finance, supply chain, and more.  The candidate will contribute to a team that works with day-to-day manufacturing operations, finance, business strategy, and infrastructure security issues.  This is a project-based, process-focused role where the candidate will be responsible for specific deliverables at the end of the internship, specifically:  Our goal is to obtain CMMC Level 3 certification in the next six months and the intern will assist with the implementation of cyber security controls.  While project-based, the internship is designed to be “real-world” experience and the candidate should expect to spend as much as 50% of the time engaged with actual day-to-day departmental and business demands which will require/develop proficiency in prioritizing and multi-tasking. In addition, the candidate will rely on skills relating to organizational ability, tactical and strategic thinking, interpersonal savvy, composure under duress, business acumen, balancing empathy with business demands, and professional oral and written communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze information security related logs, reports and data and identify risks to AvtechTyee’s information systems
  • Assist in formulating Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) to identify risks to AvtechTyee’s information systems and track remediation activities. 
  • Implement and enforce the security policies and processes that are required by NIST and CMMC Security Controls and System Security Plans (SSPs)
  • Assist with applications/tools including but not limited to SIEM, IPS, internet gateway, multifactor authentication and DLP tools. 
  • Utilize a variety of accredited security software tools to conduct vulnerability assessments, continuous monitoring scans, and those employed to maintain OS configurations.
  • Deployment of workstation image builds and maintenance of client hardware devices.
  • Involvement in the testing of client OS and applications as well as client hardware devices.
  • Provide updates to customers at regular intervals on Ticket status.
  • Attend to production support issues in a timely manner and escalate them to other IT team members and IT Manager. 
  • Introduce and manage desktop virtualization technologies like VMware Horizon VDI at AvtechTyee.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or in progress
  • 2+ years of experience in the Information Technology field
  • 2+ years of experience working with technical security strategies
  • Possess expert knowledge of Windows & Linux Operation Systems and be capable of installing, troubleshooting and configuring OS
  • Possess expert knowledge in supporting VPN and Virtual environments such as VMWare and VDI
  • Deep knowledge of network topologies, configuration management, VPN, Terminal Services, RDP and DHCP.
  • Be proficient in providing remote support through remote desktop protocol or other Remote Control software
  • Possess expert knowledge of various computing systems and peripheral equipment such as workstations, printers, scanners, hand-held devices and mobile phones
  • Experience working as a project team member or leading an IT related project that utilized a structured project management methodology
  • Experience working with end-points security and encryption solutions
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Project Description

The Information Security Analyst Intern is responsible for assisting the IT Manager with the implementation of cyber security program at AvtechTyee to improve security systems and ensure that sensitive information is thoroughly protected.  Our goal is to obtain CMMC Level 3 certification in the next six months and the intern will assist with the implementation of cyber security controls.  This is a hands-on role and the intern will be required to have technical knowledge and some work experience related to information systems. 

The intern will also work closely with the IT service desk analyst to provide first level IT technical support for all incoming calls, emails, walk-ins and Self-Service requests as well as planning and deploying hardware installations, end client software installations and configurations as per our security standards.   This role may be required to work after-hours and/or on weekends and will perform other duties as assigned.
 
Project Deliverables:
  • Reports and analyses – risk and recommendation re: cyber security controls, as directed
  • Cybersecurity policies, operating procedures, work instructions, and best practices, as directed
  • Implemented cybersecurity controls as directed by Director of IT and Cybersecurity
  • Progress reports – periodic PowerPoint presentations
  • Effective integration and relationship management across functional groups for portion of program implementation to which assigned
  • Successful implementation of cross-functional communication plan for portion of program implementation to which assigned
  • Formal project report out and presentation to the leadership team

Intern will complete a confidential pre-internship survey describing goals and expectations and a confidential post-internship survey evaluating the program, the department, and the company as a whole.  Human Resources will use this information to provide feedback and coaching to employees involved in the program and to drive improvements to the Internship Program overall.
