Role Summary
An integral part of the Solbar team, the Sommelier is responsible for ensuring the excellence, creativity, brand promise and profitability of the beverage program. The position serves as a leader amongst the service team, assisting the General Manager with staff supervision and opening and closing shifts.  This position requires flexibility and a wide range of skills and knowledge in front of house line positions. The Sommelier actively embodies, inspires, and teaches skills that will elevate the core values and mission of Solbar.

Core Responsibilities
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of everything that needs to be done!  Within the Auberge family, our people always find new ways to look after the business, their guests, and their team-mates. Within this, the key responsibilities for this position are:
  • Work with the entire team and lead the service staff in ensuring that Solbar provides unparalleled hospitality for every guest.
  • Compile, serve, and educate on wine, beer, spirits, cocktail and non-alcoholic beverage offerings in a way that adds quality and value as well as enhancing guest experience while achieving and surpassing financial goals.
  • Compile, inventory and organize the wine selections.
  • Order and receive product. Maintain and organize storage and wine cage.
  • Ensure that all beverage changes are executed properly with necessary communication, with education in mind.  
  • Ensure that all POS systems, inventory systems, beverage lists and any other information related to the selling of wine and beverage are understood by the team and remain accurate and up to date.
  • Actively seek opportunities to connect with guests during service periods by being present in the dining room and picking up on cues that will help tailor each guest’s experience to their unique needs.
  • Understand and continually develop knowledge of all front of house service roles and guide line staff in execution of the mechanics of their positions.
  • Assist with well-planned and dynamic staff line ups before shifts in order to communicate important details of service (i.e. specials, service points, workshops, etc.) and motivate staff to attain the highest level of job performance.
  • Work closely with team members each and every shift in order to continually drive service and beverage operations standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Full time position that requires full flexibility, including the ability to work weekends and holidays and a varied schedule, including opening and closing shifts.
  • Excellent beverage knowledge, including beer, wine and spirits.
  • Ability to handle stress under pressure.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong Computer skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of Restaurant systems
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open minded when being asked to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates, including opening and closing shifts.
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing 0-50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to regularly reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 15lbs; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand or walk for up to 12 hours at a time
  • Ability to balance & carry multiple plates, glass racks and or/glasses
