OCCJ President & Chief Executive Officer

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma (with frequent travel to Oklahoma City) 
Reports to: OCCJ Board Chair, Executive Committee and Board of Directors
Status: Salary, Full Time, some evenings and weekends required – Position is exempt 

The President & CEO provides strategic leadership to achieve OCCJ’s mission and vision. This position communicates directly with the board of directors and committees. President & CEO manages staff, day-to-day operations, and administration of the organization. 

The President & CEO is passionate and well-informed on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Equipped with strong communications skills, this individual is an engaging and influential public speaker who is adept at tailoring messaging to resonate with stakeholders. They excel in fund development and community building and have proven experience facilitating opposing interests to arrive at a unified goal. The President & CEO is an empowering team manager and business administrator with demonstrated experience developing staff and providing decisive direction with confidence. They possess solid critical thinking and analytical skills as well as the ability to provide short- and long-term strategic vision for the organization. 


  • Collaborate with and seek appropriate counsel from the Board of Directors to continually pursue the OCCJ vision and mission 

  • Implement board-directed initiatives and policies and support all areas of governance 

  • Keep board of directors engaged and committed by issuing and managing annual renewal of Board Memorandum of Agreement  

  • Recruit new board members and provide for a smooth succession of board leadership 

  • Schedule and set agenda for board meetings throughout the year; supervise staff on board meeting preparation 

  • Provide support for and manage staff 

  • Oversee development and implementation of experiential learning programs  

  • Provide support for strategic planning initiatives, and leadership in implementing strategic objectives  

  • Create annual operating plans and monitor strategies for ensuring long-term financial viability and value to the community 

Fundraising and Development  

  • Secure, broaden and diversify financial resources while nurturing relationships with major funders  

  • Oversee solicitation campaigns and other giving programs to support annual operations 

  • Oversee grant-seeking opportunities and planned giving efforts 

  • Create annual fundraising plans and monitor strategies to ensure long-term financial viability 

Fiscal Management  

  • Develop budget in conjunction with Treasurer and staff  

  • Manage operations within board-approved budget, and provide timely, accurate and transparent financial reports to board 

  • Ensure reserve funds are invested wisely  

  • Keep management/general expenses at 20% or, preferably, lower 

  • Maintain records and prepare for annual and bi-annual audits and submit Form 990 annually 

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payables and receivables  

Internal and External Relationship Building 

  • Create, sustain and strengthen relevance in the community as an expert organization focused on diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice 

  • Lead new efforts to build brand awareness and seek new partnerships while retaining longtime community partnerships 

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with board, staff, volunteers and community stakeholders 

  • Articulate mission with clarity and brevity by utilizing all effective and affordable avenues of communication, including, but not limited to, print, broadcast, electronic, social media, earned media, speaking opportunities, etc. 


  • Demonstrated passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice best practices - professional certifications and experience in these areas preferred 

  • Engaging, influential, inspirational and a strong relationship builder 

  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills – some public relations experience preferred 

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of planning, organizing, budgeting, administrative operations and fundraising 

  • Ability to recruit, develop and motivate staff and volunteers 

  • Politically astute with a proven track record of working collaboratively with elected officials, Trustees, community groups, staff and other key stakeholders in achieving strategic plan, goals and objectives. 

  • Strong fundraising track record 

  • Proven management and leadership experience – including staff located in remote offices 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred, not required 

  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Base salary range: $90,000 to $115,000 annual salary based on experience plus benefits package.  
This position may be eligible for annual bonus. Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and retirement.
