REPORTS TO:       Vice President of Sales and Operations

This position has a starting pay of $72,800 per year.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:  Handling donated goods with a Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose focus on meeting strategic objectives. Position is responsible for hiring, training and management of warehouse, transportation, and Outlet staff with responsibility to maximize mission integration, efficiency and profitability while maintaining the safety culture and positive image of GIRE.

This is an administrative management level position.  It is anticipated that 75-80% of time will be focused on management, 20-25% on functional tasks in the environment.  This position is not eligible for remote/virtual/work from home classification.

PROVIDES SUPERVISION TO:   All Donated Goods Retail (DGR) warehouse, transportation, and Outlet supervisors and managers.

  • Lead Donated Goods assigned line(s) of business as appropriate – Transportation, Warehousing, Outlet/Salvage operations, Sustainability efforts including recycling, e-Waste, Haz-Mat, etc.
  • Support driving scale and profitability in conjunction with 1-Touch and mission integration model.
  • In conjunction with DGR Assistant Directors, hire management team members that specifically align to GIRE core values. Reinforce GIRE core values through teaching, training, and personal example.
  • Create accountability within lines of business per:
  • Adherence to/demonstration of GIRE core values.
  • Development, implementation and monitoring of appropriate metrics and performance expectations, i.e., DGR audits and KPIs.
  • Compliance with GIRE and line of business processes and best practices.
  • Propel DGR supervisory-level leadership to develop and implement revenue driving best practices that create long-term community and business value.
  • Effectively resolve issues with DGR team members, customers, and donors – must be comfortable with occasional conflict, addressing issues and solving problems in a practical and healthy manner.
  • Mentor DGR supervisors in delivery of direct, kind, and clear performance development messages, including redirecting, disciplinary and performance improvement plans.
  • Provide monthly detailed feedback of KPIs to DGR leadership.
  • Utilize training tools and resources to support DGR team(s) in creating development plans for stabilization, growth or replacement.

Operations Focus:
  • Warehousing – provide direction to all related team members on safe, efficient, and effective processes to include inventory tracking of supplies and donated goods.
  • Transportation – ensure machinery/equipment is maintained and used appropriately, at all locations.  This includes all rolling fleet, warehouse machinery and donation/storage containers.
    • Ensure regular preventative maintenance of all vehicles and machinery.
    • Contribute to planning for adding/replacing vehicles and equipment.
  • Salvage – participate in pricing, sales and production of items moved to the salvage market.
  • Outlet – oversee the operation of the Outlet Store to ensure product is moved to support rotation schedule and recycling goals.
  • E-waste – as part of GIRE sustainability goals, ensure staff is knowledgeable about requirements in handling e-waste and reporting needs.
  • Haz-Mat – ensure that GIRE procedures are compliant, and that staff are trained to safely handle any/all hazardous materials.
  • Assume leadership of corrective trainings resulting from incidents and accidents.
  • Own efforts to increase sustainability efforts in collaboration with all DGR managers.
  • Lead efficiency studies focused on best practices for use of transportation, waste management and warehousing controls.

  • Back up any position in the department as needed to accomplish goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the GIRE Safety Coordinator and others as needed to ensure and enforce that the policies and procedures for safety are being followed in all DGR environments.
  • Attend all safety meetings including online safety trainings as required.
  • Actively participate in all trainings and meetings.
  • Must be available for occasional activities outside regular business hours.ie, answering alarm calls, community outreach
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned by Management.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in increasingly responsible supervisory/management experience. Preference given to those with prior donated goods management experience.
  • Requires experience in warehouse operations, transportation – logistics and equipment.
  • Preference for education and/or experience in sustainability
  • Experience in budget control, cash management, and basic fiscal controls.
  • Must have a valid CA drivers’ license and be insurable. Company vehicle may be assigned for local travel. Class A license desirable for back-up, not required.
  • Worksite Flexibility. Must be willing to accept assignments in various GIRE locations and to accept scheduling changes within department. Weekend work required.
  • Must provide access to a smartphone for daily business use of business emails, calls and emergency communication.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and positively resolve inquires and complaints tactfully.
  • Good communication skills, both in writing, and orally.  Ability to write reports, evaluations, and other correspondence utilizing good English skills.
  • Strong computer skills.   Solid Basic to Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Exposure to various levels of noise with occasional high level.  Temperate climate with both indoor and outdoor exposures. Various walking surfaces – to include tile, carpet, linoleum, concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass. Overhead and natural lighting. Low to moderate level of interaction with the public. May be exposed to moderate dust level occasionally. Regular travel in personal or company vehicle.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Frequent to continuous standing, sitting, grasping, walking intermittently throughout work shift. Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs with/without assistance. Bending, stooping, pulling, pushing occasionally. Manual dexterity skills frequent to continuous. Visual acuity, hearing and verbal skills required. Able to lift 50 pounds with/without assistance.
