Position title: Accounting Summer Intern
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week. College-direct interns will work one Saturday.
Employment Type: Temporary, not to exceed 89 days.
Date Range: 12 weeks beginning in May or June 2026 pending your college schedule.
Pay Range: $27.00/hr - $31.90/hr
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Position Summary
Accounting summer intern positions are open to:
- Current college students studying accounting, finance, or business.
- Recent accounting, finance, or business graduates, OR
- Existing warehouse/depot employees with established experience in the following departments: RTV, Expense, Sales Audit, Payroll, Vault, or Inventory Audit.
Interns supplement Costco’s 500+ Accounting staff members in a variety of areas (e.g., accounts payable, tax and benefit analysis, fixed assets, account reconciliations).

Our intern program is a primary recruiting tool for us to identify exceptional performers to hire into permanent roles. However, we hire based on our staffing needs, which vary throughout the year, and there is no guarantee of permanent employment upon completion of your internship.
Program specifics
- Positions are full-time at the Corporate Office in Issaquah, WA.
- Candidates are expected to be available for a minimum of 10 weeks, but no more than 89 consecutive days.
- You will participate in executive leadership presentations that are exclusive to interns.
- A typical work week is Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. –3:30 p.m., though hours may vary slightly depending on the department you are assigned.
- College-direct applicants:
- To provide you with insight into Costco’s primary function - the operation of a warehouse - the majority of your first week will be spent working in a Costco warehouse.
- This position does not offer travel or relocation assistance.
- Existing Costco employee applicants:
- A stipend may be provided to assist with travel or relocation to those who meet qualifications. Details available during the interview process.
Responsibilities
- Audits daily department work for accuracy. Verifies proper backup is attached.
- Ensures correct approvals are listed.
- Validates compliance with Costco Wholesale policies.
- Codes and processes payments/transactions and journal entries to general ledger accounts.
- Enters supplier invoices or journal entries into SAP and Winshuttle.
- Makes corrections to previous postings in the general ledger as needed.
- Uses Excel and/or Google Sheets daily.
- Works in a fast-paced environment, reaching daily deadlines.
- Ensures accurate and on-time payments or project completion.
- Follows up through email and phone for any open issues.
- Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications
Required:
- Must be an enrolled college student OR a recent college graduate majoring in accounting, finance, or business, OR have warehouse experience listed in the Position Summary section above.
- Ability to collaborate with coworkers and management on project management and problem-solving.
- Interest in learning new skills and software. A technical aptitude preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Accountable for quality and quantity of work.
- Must exhibit a positive attitude and be self-motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and become proficient with new skills.
- Desire to gain a working knowledge of Costco, its culture, and its people.
- As part of the interview process, online skills testing will be administered.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
