Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to clients dealing with chemical health issues to better manage and reduce the harm of associated behaviors. The job duties for this position are are performed within established guidelines, with regular assignments and deadlines. The role also requires sound judgment, initiative, and creative problem-solving. In collaboration with a moderate number of internal and external contacts and support partners, this position helps maintain the effectiveness and compliance of the agency’s chemical health program.

This position is generally scheduled during standard daytime business hours, with flexibility as operational needs permit, and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in accordance with Tasks’ policy guidelines and the requirements of the role. Limited local travel within the Minneapolis area may be required. 

Essential Job Functions
Provide individual sessions with chemically-dependent clients (20%)
  • Conduct client interviews to screen client's substance use and suitability for the program
  • Provide chemical health assessment and relapse prevention planning services to individual clients consistent with individual treatment plans
  • Offer support services to individual clients who experience urges and/or relapse
  • Develop and provide assesssment, service planning, and relapse prevention tools
  • Assist with intervention and referrals related to other forms of addiction including but not limited to gambling and nicotine addiction
  • Track client substance use histories, use in the program, substance use interventions, and discharges
  • Maintain an awareness of client concerns and functioning
  • Encourage individual client’s active involvement in service planning and problem solving in regards to chemical health
  • Assist with discharge/transition planning for clients with substance use disorders

Facilitate chemical dependency groups at IRTS program, Resource Center, Jobs Training Program and Transition Lodge (20%)
  • Develop and facilitate chemical health support groups
  • Maintain good rapport and flexibility in working with assigned clients

Collaborate with primary staff of chemically dependent clients  (20%)
  • Communicate with appropriate staff regarding client’s functioning; perform crisis intervention and consultation with staff working with clients who are actively under the influence of substances or who have problematic substance use
  • Consult with and train other Tasks’ staff on how to address chemical health concerns 
  • Actively participate in supervision with direct supervisor and/or Clinical Director
 
  • Collaborate with other staff in treatment planning for clients in the IRTS program, Jobs Training Program, and other program clients who are receiving chemical health services
  • Participate in general staff and program team meetings as scheduled
  • Conduct room, belonging, and property searches
  • Enroll clients with our laboratory, assess and monitor all UAs across varying programs
  • Develop and monitor substance use policies

Build rapport with clients participating in various programs (15%)

Prepare appropriate documentation and paperwork (10%)
  • Complete ARMHS service records, as scheduled and as applicable
  • Complete IRTS documentation, as scheduled
  • Complete progress notes

Provide leadership coverage for IRTS faciilty, as needed (5%), including weekend crisis on-call rotation with licensed/supervisory staff
  • Provide on-call clinical consultation

Refer clients to chemical health resources outside of Tasks as appropriate, in consultation with the client’s program coordinator (10%)                                    
  • Submit referrals and coordinate treatment services for clients with ongoing substance use across the various programs

Work Environment and Equipment
Work is performed primarily in an office or IRTS facility setting. Regular use of standard office equipment is required, including a computer, telephone, copier, and printer. This position may also require use of internal databases and Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required
  1. Mental Health Practitioner status as defined by the Department of Human Services and Minnesota Statute 245.462
  2. LADC and at least two year’s of related work experience with adults with substance use disorder
  3. Valid driver’s license and an insured vehicle

Preferred
  1. At least one year of experience with adults with serious and persistent mental illness
  2. Fluent in a non-English language or competent in the culture of an ethnic group to which 20 percent or more of the worker’s recipients belong
